Christmas lights of Lindfield

With a rather wet and miserable lead into autumn, it seems many homeowners have taken matters into their own hands to brighten up the streets of Lindfield in the run up to Christmas this year!

Most streets in the village have numerous impressive displays of festivities adorning houses and trees, as residents find ways of staying positive in 2020 but also connecting with neighbours and walkers as they pass by.

Lindfield Life went out at dusk to capture a few examples…

Christmas is coming with Lindfield Lights Trail

By Lindfield PTA

Lindfield Primary Academy is very excited to announce its Lindfield Lights Trail which will run 12th-20th December. The trail is open for everybody to take part.

All you need to do is collect your map from either Field & Forest, Slake, Lindfield Coffee Works or Somers and leave a donation there for the school if you can.

Why not grab a hot drink whilst pondering over which way you’ll go. The houses that have opted to take part will ensure their lights are on between 4pm-7pm every day.

Along the trail, there will be letters for you to find and unscramble to make a word. Once you have the answer, this can be entered into a prize draw. See map for full details.

If you take part in our trail, we would love to see your photos shared on Facebook and Instagram, using hashtag #LPALindfieldLights

Thank you in advance to all the locations featured on our map, to the venues distributing the maps and to everybody who donate towards it too. Plus a big thank you to Brett Hudson for the beautiful illustrations and map he has created for us. We cannot wait to see all the Lindfield Lights!

The last big Christmas Lights display in Meadow Lane

Every Christmas for more than 15 years, families have flocked to a little bungalow in Meadow Lane to enjoy one of the best seasonal displays in Sussex.

From Santa and his elves and reindeers to polar bears and penguins, Dennis and Judy Batchelor’s house and garden becomes the talk of the village during the festive season, with a collection that has grown every year and raised thousands of pounds for charities.

But Christmas 2017 saw the last big showcase as the couple decided to scale down their operation and sell many of the items for charity.

“We are delighted to have raised around £800 and a few items have gone off to new homes,” said Judy. “But there’s a lot left and Dennis is already talking about putting on a smaller display next year.”

Dennis was particularly pleased to hang on to his giant singing and dancing Santa after a £120 bid fell through. “I secretly didn’t want him to go, so he’s safely packed away in the loft ready to make an appearance again next year.”
